Starting at 8 am : Explore the sights of the Sri Lankan financial and cosmopolitan capital, from the thriving commercial district and oriental bazaars, to sacred temples and mosques and the ritzy Cinnamon Gardens, on this Half Day Tour.
Once a stop off for ancient seafarers trading in pearls, spices and precious stones, this modern-day sea port city is a fascinating blend of the old and the new with colonial buildings and lively oriental bazaars juxtaposed with commercial high-rise buildings and hotels. Your tour will start with a city tour with a drive through the commercial district, also known as the Fort as it was used to protect trading resources during the Dutch and Portuguese colonial times. Next you will pass Pettah full of diversity from its bazaars packed with everything you can imagine, to ancient automobiles stores, beautiful mosques and temples lining the streets. Following a visit to a Hindu Temple we continue past the stunning red-and-white Jami-Ul Alfar Mosque, one of Colombo.
We then drive by the Wolvendall Dutch Church, thought to be one of the oldest places of Christian worship on the island, and the Hultsdorf Law Courts, the centre of legal activity in Colombo, before arriving in the ritzy Cinnamon Gardens suburb, an area that was once covered in cinnamon plantations.
